Graduation Balloon Pop Money Gift: A Creative Way to Gift Graduation Money

Graduation season is upon us and I’m back with another creative way to gift graduation money. The balloon pop money gift from this post was a huge hit so I wanted to add a graduation spin on it since many of us will be gifting graduation money.

What You’ll Need for This Graduation Money Gift Idea

To recreate this unique gift, you’ll need a few simple supplies. Here is everything I used. (click bold underlined links to shop):

  • Graduation cup: Run to Dollar Tree while these are still in stock, it’s an inexpensive way to zhuzh up your graduation money gift.

  • Cash or check or printed e-gift card code rolled up tightly

  • Glitter and/or confetti: This adds to the excitement when the balloon pops.

  • Toothpick
  • Funnel
  • Ball pump with needle removed – unless you are able to inflate a balloon without it. I am not able, ha!
  • Tape and scissors
  • Paper or cardstock for the free printable “pop to celebrate” tags

Graduation Money Gift Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Prep the Graduation Cup: Begin by removing the straw from the graduation cup. This will serve as the base for your balloon pop gift.
  • Optional test run. You can add a balloon to the cup and inflate and tie it to make sure that when you poke it with the toothpick, it will pop and not just deflate. If it doesn’t pop, either your balloon is too big, you didn’t inflate it enough or you didn’t tighten the knot as close to the inflated end of the balloon as you can.
  • Insert funnel into balloon and add glitter and/or confetti
  • Insert the tightly rolled cash, check or printed e-gift certificate into the balloon
  • If you are ready to gift your graduation cash, now is the time to inflate the balloon. If you won’t be giving it to the graduate soon, wait to inflate it since balloons lose air over time and it won’t have that pop if it’s deflated.

  • When you are ready to inflate the balloon, lower it into the cup and inflate it inside of the cup.
  • Once the balloon is inflated, tie the balloon tightly by pushing the knot toward the inflated end of the balloon.
  • Add the lid back to the cup (without the straw)
  • Print the free printable pop to celebrate tag or make your own.
  • Attach the tag to a toothpick and tape it to the top of the cup covering the straw hole.

Let’s Celebrate!

Graduation is a significant milestone, and it deserves to be celebrated. The balloon pop money gift is a memorable and interactive way to give a thoughtful yet practical gift of money. I can just see the smiles on the faces of the graduates when they pop the balloon and discover their money and confetti surprise!
