Not only are they cute and practical, but they also allow for a bit of creativity and customization with what beads and charms you choose. The craft store is your oyster. Let’s get right into how you can make these spooky lip balm keychains!
Halloween Lip Balm Keychain Supplies:
Before you start crafting, gather the following supplies:
- Tube(s) of Lip Balm – there are several trending brands depending on your budget. Three of the most popular in order from most to least expensive are: Summer Friday, Laneige and elf. Since we were adding these to tween boo baskets, we went with the lesser expensive option to allow more budget for our other boo basket ideas. Here are some links to these lip balms in Halloween colors:
- Beads – this is where you can customize your keychains to your taste. If you love ours and want to recreate the same look, here are links to the specific ones we used:
- Cute ghost beads – were the ghosts your favorite too? So adorable!
- Black and white striped, silver disco and white pearl beads.
- Translucent purple and orange beads and smaller beads were from this kit
- I used beads from this bracelet for the pink beads and orange beads with clear gems If no longer available, these beads are similar
- Lobster clasps – I used 20 mm silver lobster clasps
- Jump rings I used 10 mm rings from this set
- Clear stretch cord. I used this .5 mm stretch cord
- Scissors
- Jewelry tools – if you don’t have any you can use tweezers or needle nose pliers, whatever you have on hand that can open and close the metal jump rings. Here is a fairly inexpensive jewelry tool set:
- A push pin or other sharp object to poke a hole in the corner of the lip balm
- Super glue or clear nail polish – recommended to seal knots and make the keychain more secure.
DIY Halloween Lip Gloss Keychain Instructions
- Poke a hole in the top corner of the lip balm tube. Make sure it’s not too close to the edge where it could be easily knocked loose.
- Using tools open the jump ring.
- Attach jump ring to the lip balm by looping it through the hole.
- Attach lobster clip to the jump ring by inserting it through the jump ring gap.
- Close the gap in the jump ring.
- String the stretch cord through the jump ring. The cord will now be doubled.
- Begin adding beads to the cord until you reach your desired length.
- Tie several knots to secure your beads or tie a small bead at the end.
- Optional: secure the knot by coating it with super glue or clear nail polish.
- Add as many strings of beads as you prefer by repeating the process.
