Adding charms and beads to lip balm is a fun DIY gift idea or girl’s night craft idea. The Summer Fridays Hot Cocoa Lip Butter Balm is my favorite one so far. I just love the gold lettering. When I found the gold hot cocoa mug charm, I KNEW they had to go together. I’m sharing everything you need to do to make one for yourself or as a gift for others and also some cute packaging and free printable.
Supplies to Make This Summer Fridays Hot Cocoa Lip Gloss Charm Keychain:
Here is a list of everything you need to make these keychains.
- Hot cocoa mug charm is from this set
- Jewelry tools – if you don’t have any you can use tweezers or needle nose pliers, whatever you have on hand that can open and close the metal jump rings. Here is a fairly inexpensive jewelry tool set:
- Jump ring – I used an 8 mm gold jump ring
- Beading stretch cord – I used .7 mm clear stretch cord
- Scissors
- White pearl beads were from this set
- Strong clear glue I used nail glue but you could use super glue or gorilla glue
Supplies to Package the Summer Fridays Hot Cocoa Lip Gloss Charm Keychain
If you would like to package the lip balm like I did, (inspired by Parks Party Planning ) this is what you’ll need:
- Paper or cardstock, a printer and this free printable:
- A piece of cardboard the size of the printable. Any Amazon Prime boxes lying around this time of year? I cut my cardboard slightly smaller so the edges wouldn’t show.
- Clear treat bags
- Glue dots
How to Make The Summer Fridays Hot Cocoa Lip Butter Charm Keychain:
See this video for a tutorial on how to make and package the lip balm charm keychain.
- Use a push pin or other sharp object to poke a hole in the top corner of the lip balm, making sure you aren’t too close to the edge. I used a push pin and then the round nose pliers from my jewelry tools to make it a little larger so the jump ring would fit in it.
- Detach the hot cocoa mug charm from the clasp by opening the connector and then reclosing it.
- Open jump ring and insert it through the hole in the lip balm.
- Add the hot cocoa mug charm and clasp to the jump ring.
- Tie a triple knot at the end of the beading cord and seal it with strong glue.
- Trim the tail from the knot and seal again with glue.
- Once glue is dry, add the rest of your beads to the cord.
- Attach the cord of beads to the jump ring by looping it through the jump ring then push it back down through the top bead.
- Bring the end back above the top bead and triple knot the cord.
- Seal the knot with glue, trim the end then seal again with glue.
