Fiestas are all about vibrant colors, joyful gatherings, and, of course, delicious drinks! If you’re heading to a fiesta and want to bring the perfect gift for your hostess, why not go beyond the traditional bottle of wine? A decorated tequila bottle styled like a piñata is not only a fun gift but also adds a festive vibe to the celebration.
If you’ve ever hosted a party, you know the amount of stress, time, energy, money, cleaning, prepping, planning that goes into it. Suddenly you feel the need to spring clean every spot inside and out, unless you’re my husband who would leave his breakfast dishes on the table for guests to work around, ha! All this to say, bringing a thoughtful gift is a nice way of saying I see you, thank you for all you’ve done to put together this party and for including us as guests.
Tequila is a quintessential part of Mexican culture and an essential ingredient in many classic cocktails, such as margaritas! By gifting a tequila bottle, you’re not just offering a drink but a symbol of celebration and enjoyment. Plus, a beautifully decorated bottle will make a delightful centerpiece and conversation starter.

Here is everything you’ll need to decorate your bottle: (click underline bold links to shop)
- Bottle of tequila – or you can substitute a bottled margarita mix or bottled Mexican soda like Jarritos
- Crepe paper in various colors – or you can use tissue paper cut into strips
- Clear tape or other adhesive
- Hot glue or other adhesive
- Glue dots or other adhesive to attach the label
- Scissors
- String, ribbon, or star garland to attach a lime slice
- Partially dehydrated lime slice. Cut a lime in thin slices and dehydrate them. Pull the one you’ll use for this gift out a little early so it’s still somewhat green but no longer juicy. Fully dehydrated slices lose a little of their brightness. You can save the rest of your fully dehydrated slices for future drink garnishes. If you don’t eant to take the time to make them, you can purchase dried lime slices on Amazon.

How to Decorate a Piñata Style Tequila Bottle
Steps:
- If using tissue paper instead of crepe paper, first cut out strips about the width of crepe paper
- Wrap the crepe paper around the neck of the bottle to determine how long of a piece you will need and cut it.
- Use that first piece as a template to cut the rest of the strips – as long as the rest of the bottle diameter is less than the one you measured.
- Stack the strips on top of each other and fold them in half.
- Using scissors, cut slits along the strips of paper about a quarter or half inch width apart. When you cut the slits, don’t cut all the way to the fold.

- Separate the strips of paper from each other and you are ready to add them to the bottle. Keep each strip folded so that it’s a double layer of fringe.
- If you aren’t covering the entire bottle, start at the lowest point of the neck and add your first strip. Wrap it around and attach at the top of the strip with tape.
- Add the next strip just above it, overlapping enough to cover the uncut part of the last strip. Continue this process working your way up.
- For the top strip, Use hot glue or other adhesive underneath the top of the last strip. This will give a cleaner look since tape would show.
- Using the same method, I added two more strips of paper to the bottom of the bottle to complete the look. Again, use glue instead of tape for the top strip.
Adding The Free Printable Gracias Label
- Using the highest quality print setting, print the free printable on cardstock – or paper if you don’t have cardstock.
- Cut out the label.
- I attached my label to the back of the bottle so that the recipient could still see the label of what was actually gifted to them. I used glue dots to attach mine, but you can use whatever works for you. You could even punch a hole in the corner and tie it to the top.
- Thread the partially dried lime slice onto the ribbon or string and attach it to the bottle.
Your Host / Hostess Gift Is Ready!
The bottle of tequila is gift enough but if you want to take it up another level, consider placing the decorated tequila bottle in a small basket or gift bag decorated with more vibrant tissue paper. You can also include a few fun accessories, like shot glasses, limes, margarita glasses, or a cocktail recipe card for margaritas.

Conclusion
A tequila bottle decorated like a piñata is a unique and thoughtful fiesta hostess gift that will surely bring a smile to your friend’s face. It’s an ideal way to contribute to the festive atmosphere of a fiesta while providing a drink that everyone can enjoy.
