Who can resist a craft night that sparks creativity and brings friends together? Gather your besties or teammates for a cozy fall craft night to make personalized Halloween junk keychains!
You can also swap out Halloween charms for other holidays, sports teams, or events, making the keychains the perfect craft night idea for any occasion year-round. These would be so cute on team backpacks (think team bonding craft night).
This is a simple craft that almost anyone can do.
Materials Needed:

This is everything I used, but use what you have or customize it to your preference (click affiliate links in bold to shop):
- Blank Vintage Hotel Keychains
- Gold Letter Beads (to spell out names or the word “BOO”)
- Purple Flat Back Bead Mix
- Gold Flat Back Beads
- Black and White Letter Beads
- Gold and White Letter Beads
- Halloween-themed Charms
- Bow Charms
- White Pearl Stickers
- Gold Jump Rings and Keychain Hardware – not necessary but I used this to match the gold letters and wanted to more easily attach the keychain to bags
- Jewelry Tools – used to remove and reattach the keychain hardware
- Mod Podge Ultra Spray
- Mod Podge you won’t necessarily need both Mod Podge. This regular glossy Mod Podge works best for the coat that goes underneath the beads as it helps to grip the beads as you work and helps the beads to come off of your wax pen easier
- Paint Brush to add the Mod Podge to the keychain bases
- Diamond Painting Tools – to pick up and move beads
- Tweezers
- Something to protect your table (I used a plastic disposable tablecloth.)
- Wax Paper or Parchment Paper to keep your keychain from sticking to the tablecloth.

Steps to Craft These Custom Hotel Keychains:
- Gather Your Group: Invite friends or family over for an evening of crafting. Set up a table with all materials organized for easy access.
- Cover your table with a plastic tablecloth or other protective covering.
- Set out all the beads and supplies.
- Remove the keychain hardware so you don’t get the Mod Podge on it.
- Place a piece of wax or parchment paper under each keychain.
- If using regular Glossy Mod Podge (easier): paint the surface of the keychain with a layer of Mod Podge
- If using Mod Podge Ultra Spray: Shake the Mod Podge Ultra then use it to spray the keychain surface.
- Dip your wax pen in the pink wax so it is ready to pick up beads.
- Add letter beads.
- Add other decorative beads and charms around them. I like to start with the larger beads and charms, then fill in with the smaller beads. The Mod Podge doesn’t cure right away so there is time to move items around and adjust your design as you work.
- Once you are happy with your design, coat and seal your keychain with another layer of Mod Podge Ultra. For extra durability, add a few more coats once each coat dries.
- Clean the Mod Podge Ultra nozzle so it doesn’t clog for future projects.
- Allow the Mod Podge Ultra to harden.
- Once the Mod Podge is dry, attach the keychain hardware. I wanted gold jump rings and clips so I swapped those in for the hardware that came on the keychains.

This craft night idea combines creativity with personalization, making it a memorable way to kick off the festive season. Whether hanging on backpacks or keys, these DIY keychains will be a hit!
This is such a cute idea I’m about to make ten of them
Yay! They are so much fun to make! I’d love to see how yours turn out 🙂
