Trying to decide on the most comfortable family friendly sofa for your home? Read this first! After MUCH research, stopping at store after store, researching fabric after fabric, sitting on sofa after sofa, reading review after review, you get the picture, we finally pushed the purchase button on the Crate and Barrel Lounge Deep sofa in the Taft fabric, cement color.
In this post, I’ll tell you all about what we think of our purchase. I will share comfort level, fabric, care and upkeep, pet friendly-ness, style, depth, configurations and sizing, sleeping score, durability, price point and our final verdict, would we buy it again.
Crate and Barrel Lounge Sofa Comfort Level
There is a reason the Crate and Barrel Lounge is on the lists of most comfortable family friendly sofas and sectionals. I happened to visit a close friend of mine in the midst of my months long comfortable sofa search. She had the deep lounge sofa and I was so impressed by how comfortable it was. Comfort was the most important feature I was looking for.
I had made the mistake of choosing furniture for looks in the past and found that my family wasn’t hanging out in our living room anymore. I wanted to bring my family back together in view of the kitchen (where I feel like I spend all my time.) They wanted cozy! The Crate and Barrel Deep Lounge fit that bill perfectly and bonus, I didn’t have to sacrifice aesthetics. I’m loving the look!
I will admit that it wasn’t as cushy upon arrival as my friend’s sofa but that’s to be expected. It will get even cozier with use. All that said, my family thought it was extremely comfortable and instantly started hanging out in our living room again. We were all saying “where have these sofas been all our lives?” This is not an exaggeration. I count that as a win!
Taft Cement Fabric
I tried to find photos online of the Taft fabric in Cement outside of the stock photos and couldn’t find many. That was one of the reasons I thought I’d post ours for anyone else on the search. I didn’t think I wanted this color. I was actually thinking of a more gray neutral but the cement color was in stock so it would arrive sooner and the price was about $1,000 less per sofa to use the standard fabric.
The Taft Cement fabric is a highly durable, stain resistant, high performance fabric which was important as we have kids, pets and lots of kids and guests flowing through our home. To my surprise, it turns out the fabric works perfect with our decor and it’s so neutral, it could work for just about any design style.

Coastal Style Sofa
We live at the beach so we have a coastal living room design style. Formerly we had a white slip covered sofa and, while I loved the look, the constant upkeep of a white sofa in our main living space was not for me. I think the Crate and Barrel Lounge works as a great coastal sofa. I added these coastal style lumbar pillows which have a natural fiber woven in to give that coastal vibe.
The neutral light color of the Taft Cement fabric worked perfectly with our coastal design style.
Crate and Barrel Lounge Care and Upkeep
Spill and Spot Removal
We have already had to clean spills and muddy paw prints off our sofa and they came up easily. For spills, we’ve used a dry cloth to soak up the spill. For spot removal, we used a damp cloth and mild detergent as recommended by Crate and Barrel. As always, it’s recommended to remove spills and spots as quickly as possible.
Cushion Care
It’s always good to fluff cushions and rotate them to keep your sofa looking new. This sofa require less fluffing than our last sofa so feels less high maintenance. Rotating cushions once a month would be a great habit but I’m already guilty of not doing it that frequently. It’s a good goal to shoot for if you have your act together more than me. My sofas still look great after four months of use with only one fluff and no rotation. Going to rotate now!
Pet Friendly-ness
If you allow your furry friends to be on your sofas, the Taft Cement or similar is a great fabric for that since it’s so easy to clean. I also love that it’s a two tone textured weave which will camouflage dirt. We did not allow our dog to be on our previous white sofa so we are loving that our pup can now snuggle with us during family movie nights.
Our dog will often launch on and off the sofas during zoomie sessions. While I discourage her from doing it, I’m thankful that the performance fabric has held up without damage.
Side note: Since our dog began frequently taking a nap on the sofa, I added these faux fur blankets pictured to encourage her to stay off of the sofa itself. This will keep it from smelling like a dog. She loves how cozy the blankets are and chooses to lay on them instead of directly on a cushion. They are less expensive and higher quality than most pet sofa protectors I’ve found.
My kids are also obsessed with how cozy the blankets are and curl up with them too. I think they add a nice cozy looking layer to the sofas especially for the winter.
Crate and Barrel Lounge Depths
My whole family was hoping for a sofa that was deep. The deeper, the more cozy. We chose the Crate and Barrel Deep Lounge. It is one of the deepest sofas I found, measuring in at 46 inches. We are 100% satisfied with the depth. It’s so deep, we found we didn’t need an ottoman to put our feet up on.
Deep sofas aren’t for everyone though. Our parents prefer their backs to touch the back cushion with their feet touching the floor. This depth will not work for that type of sitting. You can always offer back pillows to those guests who prefer a more shallow depth.
If you don’t like deep sofas, not to worry, the Crate and Barrel Lounge comes in three different depths. The depth options are 36, 41 and 46 inches. This sofa is so customizable which I’ll talk about more next.
Configurations and sizing
The Crate and Barrel Lounge comes in so many sizes and configurations from sofas with several width options to sectionals to chairs to ottomans. Obviously you want to measure your space to see what size will fit before ordering, but no matter what the size, you should be able to find the perfect fit for your space. At first we were planning on getting the sectional configuration but after thinking through the flow of the space, we decided two matching sofas would be best for our living room. If our living room was laid out differently, I would’ve purchased the sectional mainly because I love the corner seat! Check out their deep wedge corner seat.
Sleeping Score
If you have guests as much as we do, it’s always great to have extra spots to sleep. We found that if you remove the back cushions, the depth of the sofa is almost equal to the width of a twin size bed. We have used it for that purpose and it was found to be a comfortable night’s sleep.
The sofa is so cozy, you may be likely to fall asleep on it while binge watching your latest tv series. My family gives the Crate and Barrel Deep Lounge Sofa a 9 out of 10 sleeping score. It’s not quite up there with a mattress but still very comfortable for napping and sleeping.
Durability
While I haven’t had the sofa long enough to personally comment on long term durability, my friend had her sofa for years. It still looked and performed great. When I asked if she’d buy it again, she told me her playroom Crate and Barrel Lounge sectional was originally in their living room. When they moved it to the playroom they bought two Crate and Barrel Lounge sofas for their living room. So the answer was yes. That’s a good review. Their older CB Lounge sofa was also still holding up well.

Price point
Compared to other sofas we compared it to, the lounge was a good price especially if you’re ok with going with the in-stock fabrics. They were Taft Cement or Taft Steel. The Taft Steel was a darker gray which didn’t really go with our light and airy coastal vibe but would totally work for the trending moody tone design shift we are now seeing.

Final verdict
We are in love with our Crate and Barrel Lounge Sofa in Taft Cement fabric and definitely recommend it over other sofas. We would 100% purchase it again. It has brought my family back together in our family room and that is priceless in my book.
