I first had an Orange Crush in Ocean city MD, where it is one of their signature drinks. Hello refreshing taste of summer in a glass! I’m not even typically a fan of orange juice based cocktails. The bad news was I couldn’t find an Orange Crush at any of my local bars so to the kitchen I went.

After experimenting with different ratios, I found the Orange Crush recipe listed at the end of this post to be delicious! I’ve since made the crush several different ways including with lemon juice or grapefruit juice in place of the OJ or rum in place of the vodka and you really can’t go wrong except for one thing – you MUST use fresh squeezed juice.

Store bought orange juice makes the Orange Crush not worth drinking in my opinion. If you are making enough for a crowd and don’t have an electric juicer the squeezing can be time consuming, trust me, I did that for a while. Now I use this electric juicer and it’s been a game changer! If you don’t want to splurge on electric, this orange squeezer is great too.

Vodka – the higher the quality of vodka, the better your Orange Crush will be. If you prefer not to taste the alcohol in your drinks, definitely go with orange vodka. If you like your drinks to taste stronger, use regular vodka. I typically just use Tito’s.

Though an Orange Crush is a perfect summer drink, I also like to make it in the middle of winter. We all need vitamin C during cold and flu season!

The Orange Crush makes a perfect girls night cocktail. I like to put together a make your own drink bar so I’m not constantly mixing drinks. Then guests can adjust to their taste. I even made a fun little sign with instructions as seen here:

Strong drink fans can go light on the mix-ins. Fans of sweet, weaker drinks can go heavy on the OJ and Sprite and definitely use orange vodka instead of regular. The recipe on my little sign is on the very strong side. Most people ended up preferring more OJ and sprite than listed so I tweaked the recipe listed below to be more crowd-friendly.
